Summa Consultants, Inc. (Summa) provides business planning, business development, and business optimization services that help technical service firms achieve and sustain client-centered growth.  Summa’s clients include small and medium size enterprises (SME) that provide scientific, engineering, and related technical services within the environmental, energy, and cleantech marketspace.

 

David Elam founded Summa in 1999 after nearly 20 years in the technical consulting business.  His experience includes project execution, project management, business development, quality systems implementation, mergers and acquisitions, training, and consulting firm management.  Before starting Summa, David was employed as a Vice President, Project Director, and Practice Leader for an Engineering News-Record (ENR) 25 Environmental Consulting and Engineering Firm.

Clients rely on David to help them advance their business, develop and implement business plans, improve processes, and successfully launch new services or offices. He puts his 30 years of broad-based environmental, health, and safety management experience to work for his clients by serving them in four important areas:

Business Development Support: David reduces complex scientific language, requirements, and specifications to audience-focused, easy-to-understand  newsletters, fact sheets, web content, business plans, white papers, position papers, and sales training materials that satisfy targeted business purposes.

Process Optimization: Environmental consulting firms and in-house environmental service organizations trust David to develop, refine, document, and implement management systems and work processes that support profitable and compliant operations.

Project Management: Seller-doer organizations count on David to help technical project managers deliver successful, profitable projects that yield repeat business and improve operational performance.

Regulatory Analysis: David helps clients understand how science-intensive regulations issued by DOE, EPA, FDA, OSHA, and USDA apply to their operations or markets and what they must do to function successfully within the regulatory environment.

David is a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), a Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE), a Project Management Professional (PMP), and a Qualified Source Testing Observer (QSTO).  He is a member of the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH), American Chemical Society (ACS), the American Society for Quality (ASQ), the Air and Waste Management Association (AWMA), the Project Management Institute (PMI), and the Source Evaluation Society (SES).  He holds an MS degree in Chemistry and a BS degree in Microbiology.
